Here's a quick set of facts about our live Internet streaming and some other subjects. We add to this information, so please check back occasionally. If you have any questions, please address them to webmaster@novaclassicrock.nl

bulletQuestion: Why does Media Player often interrupt or stop playing NOVACLASSICROCK.NL and show me a "Buffering..." message?
Answer: It's not your computer, it is a congested Internet connection that is likely your problem. This is typical of dialup connections, but can affect even high speed connections. The solution to try is setting it to buffer more of the signal. Buffering means your computer downloads X number of seconds of signal before it starts to play. As you listen, the signal is being received all the time. Due to the way the Internet works, occassionally you will have brief interruptions in the constancy of your connection to the server sending the signal to your computer. When you see the "buffering" message, it means the interruptions exceeded the amount of stored advance and it had to try to catch up by stopping the play and adding some more. The default is 5 seconds of buffering. We suggest you set your Media Player to buffer for 30 seconds so that will be so far ahead it has time to adjust to brief interruptions before it goes silent. TO SET THE BUFFER, go to the View menu in Media Player and choose the Options... choice. Click the "Advanced" tab, then click on "Change." In the "Buffering" section, change it to "Buffer 30 seconds of data." Hopefully this will greatly improve your reception.

bulletQuestion: Why does the streaming sound sometimes have odd echoes?
Answer:This is an effect of what is happening on your computer. If your computer (CPU, for you techfreaks) is busy doing other stuff, it can cause momentary delays in processing the sound stream. Media Player has a cute habit of repeating the last sound it processed until it gets time to work on the next one. This is why it sometimes sounds like Max Headroom has taken up residence in your computer.

bulletQuestion: How do you get NOVACLASSICROCK.NL onto the Internet?
Answer:You're listening to an "off air" signal just like everyone in the Haaglanden area when they tune us in. It is then digitally encoded on a our new server. It's from VA Linux Systems. It's got 4 CPUs (Intel Xeon 550Mz) running concurrently, 2 Gigs of RAM, 150 Gigs of Hard Drive space, and is faster than greased lightning. It is also HUGE and weighs about 100 pounds!

Actual photo of NOVACLASSICROCK.NL entering the Net. Exciting, isn't it?!

bulletQuestion: Is the stream I hear on the Net really live?
Answer:Yes and no. It's as live as it can be, given the processing that the signal must get in encoding at the server, travelling through the Internet, and decoding at your computer. The latency (that is, the inherent delay) is roughly 15 to 30 seconds behind the actual radio signal, depending on the amount of buffering set in your Player.

bulletQuestion: I'm not from that area. Where is The Hague - Netherlands?
Answer:The Hague is one of the premier tourist regions in the Netherlands. Located on south-west near the coast,Nordsea, or better the beach of scheveningen. See our beach cam. Check out some of the area's attractionshere.

bulletQuestion: Where are the Nova Classic Rock studios located?
